Arrived Safely to El Salvador

Hey Momma I get to email you real quick just to let you know I'm safe. We got here no problem. Mission president is cool!  Can't write much. Love you Lots.
Elder Hoy

Dear Hoy Family,
We are happy to announce that your son, Elder Hoy, has safely arrived to our mission. The night of his arrival, we enjoyed getting to know him in a dinner at the mission home, and we can tell that he is a great missionary. We are grateful for his sacrifices and your sacrifices to allow him to be here. We pray that our Lord Jesus Christ will pour out his blessings upon your family. We are very happy to have your son with us and we know he will bless the lives of many people here in the great country of El Salvador.

He hasbeen assigned to the Las Colinas area in the Juayúa Stake. His companion is Elder Martinez from Mexico. We expect to see many miracles from this companionship.

Last week in the CCM

Buenas tardes familia! Les amo y estoy muy emocionado por que este es el ultimo vez que
voy a mandar un correo electronico del CCM! This is the last time I will be emailing you
from the CCM! A week from today I will be in El Salvador most likely teaching an
investigator or something. I'll probably get to email you when I get to the mission home
or something! CCM life is same ol same ol. Last P-Day, we went to Wal-mart and a mall
and its was awesome! The Wal-marts here are the same but so different at the same time.
I got to talk to the cashier at Wal-mart in spanish and told her about how I'm a missionary
for the church and stuff. It was cool to finally speak to a real person! The mall made me
feel like I was back in the states though! It was a super nice three story mall and I ate at
Wendys in the food court. It was soooo good! I also found something awesome at the mall!
I was walking around with some of the other missionaries and there was a kind of skate/surf
shop and it had a small half-pipe inside! I talked to the workers there in spanish and I got to
skate it a little bit! (mom you're probably freaking out) It was awesome though and I miss it
but I'm staying busy and haven't really thought about it that much! Another confession I
have to make is that I DID bring my fingerboard. ( Mom you're probably going nuts right
now) but the latinos and everyone else think it's so cool. lol. I'm not letting it be a
distraction though, and I only take it out at meal times haha. Well I love you all and hope
things are going well at home!

Mucho amor,
Elder Hoy

PS: Mom. my Rockports are already suffering some heavy wear, and the bottom is
already rounded off and stuff. My companion has some that he let me try. They are
called Johnston and Murphy's, and they are literally the most comfortable shoes I
have ever worn. SO... when my birthday comes around in a few months and you
guys are getting my birthday package together(which I know you were already
planning on doing;) ) you should look for those shoes. I'll send you a picture of
them if I can when I'm out in the field, but they would be greatly appreciated. oh,
and I got your letter with the pictures! Thanks so much I love you.

“ijustwannagetoutthereandreallyserve” sickness

Buenos Días!

Sorry I couldn’t call on Mothers Day. 200+ missionaries and 1 phone don’t work out  too well together! CCM life is same old same old. I was kind of bummed for a few days this week. Not so much homesickness as much as “ijustwannagetoutthereandreallyserve” sickness. Me and my Friend Elder Hansen from Utah are both going to the same mission and we are both practically fluent at Spanish already. We both just want to get out of here! Did you hear Josh Perkins got his call to Indianapolis? Same mission as Dad! So cool! I love how everyone’s call is unique! Ty is doing great! He is a zone leader at Provo which is awesome! But anyways! I love you guys and I’m trying harder this week to lose myself in the work and study. I can’t wait to get out of here! It’s awesome, but I just actually want to help people! I get to go to Wal-Mart tomorrow for p-day! It’s going to be so fun! We are also going to the mall food court and they have a Wendy’s there! I am going to stuff my face so full of American hamburgers.

Love you lots and miss you a little:)
Elder Hoy

PS:
MOM- did you by chance know a Jeff Morris when you lived in Valencia/worked at magic mountain? Hermana Morris, the Sister from Bill’s ward, is in my district and we were talking about Magic Mountain and I said how you worked there and stuff! I guess he worked there too, went to Hart High, and is the same age as you! If you don’t its whatever, but it’s still just crazy how small this world is!

FEAST upon the Words of Christ

Hola Familia!

Todo esta bien aqui en Guatemala! Estoy aprendiendo mucho del Evangelio de Jesucristo y lo me encanta mucho! I’m doing great and it’s crazy I’m already half way done with my stay in the MTC here! We didn’t end up going to Walmart, but we went to the central market! It was so crazy! It was this underground market full of little stalls and rooms of people just selling tons of stuff! It was unlike anything I'd ever seen before! I kept seeing little Guatemalan children running around and just wanted to snatch them up and bring them home! Mom, we should adopt one:) That was the highlight of last week. My spanish continues to improve, as does my knowledge and desire to read the scriptures. I finally understand what it means to FEAST upon the words of Christ, and my spiritual stomach is constantly full. However, my physical stomach isn't! The food is still great, but I’m still always hungry! All of the Latinos love Elder Hoy which is awesome! I honestly feel I have a special connection with the people here because of my name! Thanks Dad! I had a couple of really cool experiences this week! First, I bore my testimony in Testimony Meeting on Sunday, and I did it in Spanish! All of the Latinos were super impressed with my speaking and complimented me after! It was so awesome! The other experience I had was pretty serious though! One of the Elders in my room, Elder wolsleger, always moves his bed over next to mine by the window and we just talk and stuff. As I was lying there, I couldn’t really fall asleep and I didn’t know why. Suddenly Elder Wolsleger just sat straight up next to me with a kind of scared/nervous look on his face. I asked him if he was alright and he said yeah, so I laid back down, but a few minutes later he sat up again and asked me to give him a blessing. He said he felt like something kept moving his bed and he was just having bad thoughts and feelings come over him. It was kind of scary. But I got up and laid my hands on his head, and as soon as I said his name, I just felt this amazing energy, almost like electricity just run through my body. It was amazing. I just went on to bless him with peace and comfort, and that anything unwelcome in the room to leave immediately. After that, we both just got into bed and fell right asleep. So crazy! It was definitely one of the most amazing experiences I had here. That was my first real opportunity to exercise my priesthood in that way. It was awesome. But anyways, my time is about up! I love you guys and am looking forward to what experiences I’m going to have this week that I can share with you guys!

Mucho amor,

Elder Hoy
