Thanksgiving Lunch with the Mission!

Hey momma...no I still haven't gotten the package yet...hopefully this week. Wow!!!  I'm way jealous of your adventures! I want to go to Europe! Let's go next summer! I have a friend that is living in Paris right now on a study abroad program and she says it's so cool to be there. Our weather here is warm...cold fronts don't exist in Central America... haha.

Well another normal week has gone by. But there were some fun things. On Thursday we had a Thanksgiving Lunch with half the mission. We can't do it with all the missionaries because there isn't a church big enough here to hold all 230 something of us. But we had a nice big hunk of turkey and by nice big hunk, I mean I finished it in like 4 bites. We also had a spoonful of mashed potatoes and some vegetables... good quality but the portions could have been a LITTLE bit bigger...

They told us today that my companion is going to have changes so on Wednesday I will be getting a new companion. I'm kind of bummed because me and Elder Villanueva get along really good... but change is always good.

On Friday we went and made tacos with a family but they didn't turn out too good because the tortillas here are really thick. Like imagine eating a taco with five tortillas...so its just a little weird.

We have been visiting this family up in the mountains and they have horses and cows and stuff so we took pictures with their horse. Tomorrow we are going to go help them on their farm that they have. It's about an hour walk up into the mountains and it has a really cool view... so I should have some cool pictures next week.

Our investigators are doing good. We have this guy Edwin that is someone that was prepared by the Lord for us to find and teach. He is one of the few people that I have met here that actually understands almost everything we teach. So it is really cool to teach him.

Hey that's so cool for Maddie. Now we will be able to speak Spanish together after our missions. I'm going to miss Black Friday shopping with you!  Wow... that's cool to hear about Lexie and my letter! I miss those kids a ton. I cant wait to see them! Its crazy to think I only have like 4 months left. Where does the time go???

Well momma I love you so much and I'm so grateful for you and your amazing example to me. I hope you have a great week!!

Another Great Week!

November 17, 2014
I'm glad that you are enjoying working in the temple Mom. I'm so sad that I will miss 2 temple dedications. But I'm sure I will live to see more temples built in AZ. The work is going good here. We have had 4 baptisms and we are preparing more people for December. This town is really cool...and I'm serious mom... we have to come back to visit together!

So this week was good! One of the cool parts was that we found this kid that lives on our street who has a sick fender acoustic guitar that he doesn't even use so he is letting me borrow it. My companion can sing and play a little so we have been making some cool arrangements with the guitar and ukelele. I'll try and have a member here film it and put it on Facebook or something so y'all can see.

This was the first time in a long time that we didn't have any investigators in church or a baptism in a week. It was kind of sad. But we did put a baptism date with this guy named Erwin. He lived and went to high school in the states so we were able to talk in English which was really cool. It was really great to be able to teach him the gospel in English, but it felt really weird too.. Things are going good. We are going to have a Thanksgiving lunch as a mission on Thursday so I am way excited for that.

There might be changes next week so I'll let y'all know. I don't think they would change me but they may change my companion... hopefully not. We get along great. I love you all and hope you have a great week. I know I will!

Love,
Elder Hoy
Here's a super cliche "missionarypreachingtoanimal" picture... he wasn't interested...

Grateful to be Serving in El Salvador!

November 10,2014
Well this week was another good one. We had another baptism on Wednesday, a young girl named Jackeline. It was kind of sad because her mom didn’t want her to be baptized. A pastor from their old church came and told her a bunch of lies about the church so she was a little iffy but we cleared up her doubts and everything went smooth.

My companion and I get along super good so things are going really well for us. We have a lot of people progressing and making changes in their lives. It is awesome to see how happy they are.  We did a cool movie night activity at the church and watched The Other Side of Heaven. It really made me count my blessings and appreciate that I didn’t have to serve in Tonga in the fifties and that we have a nice house with running water. Now that Thanksgiving is coming up, I am realizing how blessed and how grateful I am for all of my family and friends. I LOVE YOU ALL!!! Thanks for everything.

I bought a little 2015 calendar from a guy on the bus and it is crazy to see how little time is left. I am going to make the best of these 5 months that are left for me here in El Salvador and help as many people as possible! I love y’all and hope you have a great week!!!

Besos,
Elder Hoy

The Temple is So Beautiful

I’m doing good. The weather here is nice right now. It’s really windy though. Our baptisms have been good. We had one on Wednesday of a nine year old boy named Steven. It all went really nice. We have another baptism this Wednesday as well...so things are going really good for us. My companion and I are getting along good.

They don’t celebrate Halloween here. They did have a big party/dance though and the music didn’t stop until about 1:00 in the morning. Most of the people here think that Halloween is diabolical and evil so they don’t celebrate it...Bummer. But we bought candy and handed it out to all the little kids here! So that was fun. Hope y'all aren’t too sick from all the candy. I know I’m not. The assorted bags of Hershey’s here are like 20 bucks sooooo I definitely did NOT buy any. I did treat myself to a snickers bar though:)

Tuesday we went to the temple. The temple here is so beautiful! It was so nice to go and see and feel the love of our Heavenly Father.  I had almost completely forgotten how peaceful and amazingly strong the spirit is there.

Sorry...I had to use some of the money in my account. I had to buy new shoes and some pants because some of my clothes got ruined... and at the end of the month I run out sometimes...and I helped a couple of missionaries out in my district because they didn’t have any money and their families don’t have any money to help them.

I can’t believe it’s already November!! Where did the time go?? Crazy!!!  But yeah... here are some pictures of the week...playing with cows and other things ha-ha. But yeah I love you all with all my heart! Have a great week!
